2018 Renzaglia Cabernet Sauvignon

$25.00 inc. GST
Fresh, medium bodied and brimming with delicate red and black fruits. This is tremendous value cool climate Cabernet.
Handpicked 3.7 tonnes from our Mount Panorama Estate vineyard on 23 March. We crushed into four different open fermenters and allowed the must to soak for five days before adding yeast to two of the four fermenters. The wine was fermented in open fermenters with hand plunging 3 times per day until pressing on 9 April. The wine was then aged for 15 months in 1-4-year-old French barriques prior to a light egg white fining to soften the tannins prior to bottling.

The resultant wine is an alluring medium bodied cabernet with aromas of black currant, bay leaf and underlying earthiness. On the palate, the wine is well balanced with red fruits and mint, good richness, and lingering tannins.

I never knew this estate till now. I like what I taste: measured wines, defined by the je ne sais quo of all good wine: meagre soils (granite, in this case) attentive viticulture and discerning winemaking, with a less-is-more approach embedded into the ethos. For this price, I can’t imagine much better. A wholesome mid-weighted table wine of frisky varietal disposition, slinky tannins, cassis, a riff of sage and mint and natural acidity. A lovely drink. 92 Points, Ned Goodwin (Halliday Wine Companion)
