Description
Mate with fruit from the Mt Panorama Estate vineyard, it was hand harvested on 27 February and 1 March Crushed and pressed, then cold settled for 3 days before racking off lees. The wine was 100% barrel fermented with no temperature control over a 2-week period with weekly battonage over the first month after fermentation and then monthly from there on. 10-month elevage in French oak barriques, 25% new, it was bottled without fining and a light filtration in January of 2020.
This is a classic Mt. Panorama Chardonnay. Light straw in color, it smells of crushed stones, orange blossom, green pear and apple and a restrained, earthy spice. A wine of distinct components. On the front there is a refreshing presence of agrum and lemon pith. As it builds into the middle pallet, the mouth is filled with minerality, earth and a grapefruit tang which is all rounded out by a rich finish of roasted nuts and spice.
