2018 Stone Wall Nuovo

Unctuous, light and smashable. This is a light bodied red wine, made from Italian grapes, perfect for the Aussie summer.

Description

This is a blend of 40% Barbera, 30% Sangiovese & 30% Dolcetto all of which was sourced from Tony Hatch at Vale Creek Wines. The Sangiovese and Dolcetto were co harvested, two thirds of which underwent carbonic maceration for twenty days. The remainder was fermented with wild yeasts in open fermenters maintaining a temperature of 20-22 degrees throughout the ferment. We treated the Barbera like a very dark rose. The fruit was crushed and cold soaked for a period of 3 days prior to being pressed off skins so as to extract only the supple skin tannins and colour as opposed to the more astringent seed tannins. The must was then pressed from the skins and transferred to a stainless steel tank where it underwent a cool, spontaneous fermentation. These wines were then blended together and bottled on August 22 without fining or filtration and minimal Sulphur additions.

A real joy to drink this one, the bouquet really does jump out of the glass with strawberry cream, sour cherry cola and some stem derived spice. The palate assumes a stark contrast to the nose with a tight acid line cutting right through the savoury, earthy notes, cherry ripe and blood orange that keeps on going and going.

TASTING NOTES

FOOD PAIRING

This has to be our quintessential summer BBQ red wine, will pair up as beautifully with fresh grilled chicken with loads of herbs, a nice lamb cutlet or a crispy noodle wombok salad. Really can’t go wrong here, Sam’s favourite wine in our line.
