2022 Nuovo di Renzo
$35.00 inc. GST
A blend of Sangiovese (from Freeman and First Ridge), Graciano (Freeman), Vermentino (First Ridge), Cabernet (Canobolas Smith) and Tempranillo (Freeman). All picked on a variety of different days and exposed to a variety of different vinification techniques; ranging from being treated like a dark rose with some whole bunch soaking for 2 days prior to ferment (Graciano), to carbonic maceration (First Ridge Sangiovese- 1st pick and Canobolas Cabernet), partial whole bunch fermentation (First Ridge Sangiovese – 2nd pick), whole berry fermentation (Freeman Sangiovese and Tempranillo) and Vermentino that was fermented on skins. This patchwork of differing components was put in front of us on the blending table and we nipped and tucked the proportions of each until we had a wine that we felt was as well balanced as possible, complex and engaging. It was blended and sulphur added in mid September and bottled without any fining or filtration on October 13 2022.
TASTING NOTES
A very enticing Orange/Ruby colour. The nose hints sour cherry, raspberry and cranberry alongside spices like clove and black pepper. There’s an earthy side to it as well, bordering on truffle- this is kept in check by bright red fruits and a spicey/savoury weight framed by powdery and persistent tannins.

Raspberries, summer berries, it’s a fruity bouquet. Leafy elements, basil and cinnamon. There’s a dark choc grip towards the end. Chill it or not and it will satisfy your needs or have it with food or on its own. All will work well. It’s easy to drink but with sufficient substance and weight not to be called simple. Joyous.
