The Riesling di Renzo features an artwork by the celebrated Hill End artist, Luke Sciberras of the Sacred King Fisher or in Wiradjuri language- Dhaaalirr. The Sacred King Fisher is a spectacular bird that we are excited to say has been spotted on a number of occasions at our place since the Spring of 2020. It’s clearly starting to move into this area and we are continuously enlivened by it’s presence. It’s diet consists of a range of insects and we believe they may also be helping out with the explosion in mice numbers over the past 12 months too. Our only concern about the re emergence of the Sacred Kingfisher is the fact they keep attempting to fly through our windows!

Made with some lovely fruit from Cargo Road Wines grown by James Sweetapple from 14-year-old vines growing on some very rock red basalt rite in Lidster on the Western side of Orange. We harvested the fruit slightly earlier than we would have liked to as rain threatened very close to harvest time. The fruit had some nice botrytis through it and we hand-picked being sure to keep the good botrytis. The fruit was whole bunch pressed hard and slow to extract some phenolics and texture. The wine was fermented in stainless steel by indigenous yeasts and was stopped whilst there was still a small amount of residual sugar, at the point where the ideal balanced was reached. It was then aged on full lees without any stirring for 7 months prior to bottling without fining and with sterile filtration.

On the nose we see hints of citrus blossom and lemon meringue, white nectarine and green fruits like apple or feijoa. In the mouth, there’s a lovely herbaceousness that bring fennel to mind as well as those delicious green fruits again propped up by a subtle hint of residual sugar and some grippy phenols to keep things interesting all the way through the entire length of the wine. Hard to beat… A Riesling like this!
