2022 Renzaglia Chardonnay

$40.00 inc. GST
Racey and light on it’s feet. A cool climate, Orange Chardonnay with plenty of stuffing to cary the zippy acidity.
WINEMAKING NOTES

Made from fruit sourced from the See Saw Balmoral Vineyard in Orange, the fruit was picked early in the morning prior to one of the substantial weather fronts that was typical of the 2022 vintage. Settled juice was barrel fermented by wild yeasts in a mixture of 20% new and the remainder, old barriques and a single puncheon with ferment temperatures topping out around 26 degrees C. Post primary fermentation each barrel was treated individually, most went through a full malo lactic fermentation and one was stopped prior to completing MLF to retain some tension in the wine. Many barrels were not sulphured until the Spring. The wines were all held on full fermentation lees and stirring was also done barrel to barrel, we have pulled back on the amount we in recent years. Wines were taken out of barrel and blended to tank in February 2023 taking some fine lees along. The blended wine was then held in tank for a further 6 months prior to a light filtration and bottling in late September 2023.

TASTING NOTES

This is wicked drinking, so fresh and crisp, clean lines and minerally, all green apple, just ripe pineapple and lime with a faint green almond and green olive note woven through. Delightful in its cooler, lighter frame, zingy and brisk with a trail of talc-like mineral character through the finish. It’s refreshing and oh so wonderfully easy to get into, but has plenty going on.
