2023 Renzaglia Cabernet Merlot

$40.00 inc. GST
Spicey, earthy and leafy with a good lick of generous dark berry fruit. A classy cool climate Cabernet blend.
WINEMAKING NOTES

This Cabernet Merlot is made with grapes from the Mt Panorama / Wahluu Vineyard (73%) harvest 27 April and Merlot from Freeman in the Hilltops (28%) harvest. 2023 brought significant rain at the start and end of April, luckily Caberent’s thick skins and rigourous work in the vineyard allowed the grapes to hang through the wet March/April and come out the other end in great shape.

The Cabernet was fermented with whole berries, gentle extraction- spending 3 weeks on skins. The same for the merlot. Both were matured in barriques, 15% new for 10 months prior to blending to tank for a further 6 months maturation prior to bottling without any fining or filtration.

TASTING NOTES

Inviting, black forrest cake fruits, dusty, cocoa powder, tomatoe leaf and dried rosemary. A very appealing, herbal/floral interplay sitting over lush and inviting fruits. In the mouth, it’s soft and pillowy at the front carried through by savoury, black currant and liquorice spice, a powdery tannic chew and persisistant acid line. Great drinking.
