2022 Renzaglia Sangiovese
$40.00 inc. GST
Made from fruit sourced from 2 champions of the alternate varietals in NSW, First Ridge in Mudgee and Freeman Vineyards in the Kingsvale- just outside Young. The fruit came in almost 6 weeks apart, with the Mudgee Sangiovese being the 2nd grapes we received in the 22 vintage and the Freeman Sangiovese being the 3rd last. That says a lot about how those climates vary and also of the rain that we received throughout the 22 harvest. It really drew things out. So, it’s safe to say we had a lot of time to reflect on the decisions we made with the First Ridge fruit prior to receiving the Freeman. The First ridge fruit was fermented by wild yeasts with 15% whole bunch, 50% whole berries and 35% crushed berries in a 2000L stainless tank and was held on skins for 20 days. This wine was sent to a combination of foudre and 1 new barrel for maturation. The Freeman fruit was fermented by wild yeasts as whole berries in 1 tonne fermenters prior to being sent to a range of old barrels, 400kgs of this fruit was held on skins for 4 months prior to pressing in stainless steel. The final wine was blended in the Autumn of 2023 prior to the refilling of the barrels with the following vintage. The blended wine was held in stainless steel for a further 6 months prior to bottling in the Spring of 2023 without any fining or filtration.
