2018 Mt. Panorama Estate Shiraz
The fruit was hand harvested on 9 and 29 March and soaked for 4 days before a spontaneous fermentation starte. No yeast was added, and a warm open ferment ensued until pressing off skins after 18 days. Aged in 33 % new French oak barrels for 16 months prior to careful barrel selection of the best blend 2 weeks before bottling. Rough filtration shortly before bottling on 01 August 2019.
An alluring deep scarlet colour captures you from the moment it is in the glass. The nose is showing some earthy notes complemented by a lifted interplay between black forest fruits, cocoa, and a touch of funk. In the mouth the fruit is plush with racy black plum and Campari. There is also a savoury and earthy element that, coupled with the lively acid and sleek tannins, make this a multifaceted and classy wine for the cellar.4

A cool-climate display of Australia giving a nod to the luncheon wines of the northern Rhone. Crozes, perhaps. Blueberry, kelp, charcuterie, violet and an anchovy/tapenade salinity splayed across a long finish, driven by gentle but palpable tannins and a stream of juicy acidity. The tannins, to be churlish, could be firmer. Nevertheless, a delicious wine best in the earlier to mid term. 94 Points, Ned Goodwin (Halliday Wine Companion)
