2023 Renzaglia Riesling

$40.00 inc. GST
Textural, rich and fine boned Riesling from Orange NSW. A slightly off dry Riesling from a very cool and wet year.

WINEMAKING NOTES

Made with some lovely fruit from Cargo Road Wines grown by James Sweetapple from 16-year-old vines growing on some very rock red basalt rite in Lidster on the Western side of Orange. We always take our own crew for this pick to obtain the right level of botrytis. It was a dance with the impending rain clouds in 23 as we oscillated from inside to outside whilst trying to get this fruit in. 1300kgs in the end.

Once in the winery, the fruit was pressed as hard as possible to give the wine a level of grip that we see as essential in balancing the high acidity of Orange’s cool climate Riesling. The wine fermented slowly in a 750L foudre and one old 225L barrique and was stopped at what we deemed to be the ideal time. It then spent 7 months sitting on it’s full fermentation lees without any agitation or stirring. The wine was sterile filtered and sent to bottle in October of the same year it was picked.

TASTING NOTES

The 2023 Renzaglia Riesling is brimming with personality showing pronounced tension between richness and brightness. The nose evokes jasmine, just ripe white peach, Feijoa and bread dough. There are oodles of texture in the mouth which creates a great counterpoint to the high acid. This sits alongside notes of pear, fresh lime and a savoury acidity that is screaming out for some food.
